Change of plans for Captains Mistress

Quality harness racing filly Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) will head to Addington next week and that trip will be the decider as to whether she runs in the Great Northern Oaks in Auckland a fortnight later.

The three year old was originally down to contest a heat of the Southern Oaks at Ascot Park. But that race didn’t get off the ground with only four horses accepting.

“Being such a good filly she probably scares a bit of the opposition away. It’s disappointing for sure,” trainer Nathan Williamson said.

Williamson will take Captains Mistress back to the trials tomorrow at Winton before heading to Addington for the $50,000 Magness Benrow Sires’ Stakes Three Year Old Fillies Semi Finals raced over 1980 metres.

“She’s come up good and her target is Addington next week. How well she goes there will determine whether we go to the Great Northern Oaks or whether she goes to the Southern Oaks. She’s forward, but she carries a wee bit of condition. I’m also mindful that she’s got a trip to Addington and a trip to the North Island, so she’ll tighten up a bit.”

Hidden Talent (Bacardi Lindy) will also go to Addington to race in the $50,000 Listed Future Wealth Sires’ Stakes Aged Trotters Classic.

“She was third in the Group One the other night and we were happy with that. We’ve just freshened her for Addington. She may go to Diamonds Day and to Auckland for the Rowe Cup, but we’ll see how she acquits herself next week.”
