Captains Mistress returns first up in impressive win

Inter Dominion champion Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous) lived up to expectations when resuming with a hollow harness racing win in the AD Turnbull Free For All at Menangle on Saturday evening.

As expected Captains Mistress was untroubled in holding the early lead. Lux Aeterna settled behind the leader while Kingman was third as the field raced in single file.

Max Delight who was sporting the AD Turnbull colours moved up to put Kingman in a pocket but Captains Mistress thanks to Cameron Hart giving her an easy run in front looked to be coasting in the run.

CAPTAINS MISTRESS 3 OCT REPLAY

Hart let the mare rip along in her final two quarters in 26.7 and 26.9 seconds and she seemed still to be in second gear as she strode clear to defeat Kingman by four metres with Hi Manameisjeff in third.

Captains Mistress is now headed for the Group 1 $250,000 Victoria Cup at Melton on 17 October where if she draws favourably is likely to start a warm favourite. Kingman is also likely to make the trip to Melton and there was a lot to like at the way he was finishing on. Although he didn’t look like catching Captains Mistress he did make up some ground given the blistering last two quarters run by Captains Mistress.

Hi Manameisjeff held on for third while Lux Aeterna found the rise in class a bit beyond her while Max Delight couldn’t sustain the effort after facing the breeze.
