Campbell win total could rise

He has cemented his place as the most dominant harness racing driver in the history of Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park but the beat goes on for Marc Campbell.

First race post time is 12:30 P.M. for the 16-dash card with Campbell sitting behind the presumptive favorite in the race 15 feature. The Winsloe driver broke his own all-time dash win record during last Saturday's program and now has three cards left to pad his total. Owned by Wilbur and Marie MacDonald of Orwell, Eagle Jolt has drawn post 6 in a field of seven featured pacers after playing bridesmaid to the dominant duo of D Gs Camme and Drivingthedragon N in recent weeks. With those top pacers absent in this week's $2,100 event, Eagle Jolt will face off with Forever Paradise (Driven by Corey MacPherson) from post 7 along with Smiley Bayama, who gets a heaping pile of post relief drawing the rail for reinsman Adam Merner.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac is taking a different angle, as he looks to Smiley Bayama to regain the form that saw him race the top echelon of free-for-all pacers earlier this year.

"He's been battling outside posts for the past couple of months so landing on the pylons is a big break," MacIsaac said of Smiley Bayama. "Since he shouldn't have nearly as much work to do late with a better beginning almost assured, he'll be hard to deny."

Other entries include Woodmere Articblue (Ryan Desroche), Best Risque (Jason Hughes), IDK (Vincent Poulton) and Rash B Havior (Ken Murphy).

The East Coast's top trotters square off in race 4 of the program with Campbell yet again favoured with Freddie from post 7 for owners Three Wisemen Stable of Cornwall. Carrying a $1,850 purse, the Open trot will again see Freddie face Holy Molie Maggie after trading blows in recent weeks. Gary Chappell drives Holy Molie Maggie for trainer and co-owner owner Jeff Holmes of Orwell and co-owner Trevor MacDonald of Vernon Bridge.

The afternoon finale sees Jetta Flys ride a three-race win streak into the $1,600 race for driver MacPherson, who has been undefeated since teaming up the pacer, along with trainer and co-owner Stephen Quinn of Stratford and co-owner John Quinn of Charlottetown.
