By Glen McNeil ·

As the new season at Plainridge Park approaches, drivers and fans alike are gearing up for fast horses, thrilling finishes and all the excitement that makes harness racing a favorite pastime. Few embody that excitement better than Brett Beckwith, a driver known for his strategic driving, consistent results and connection with the horses he guides.

I caught up with Brett to talk about the upcoming season, his preparations and what fans can expect when the gates fly open.

The young reinsman has already built an impressive résumé, recording over 2,100 career wins and surpassing $22 million in earnings. He’s off to a strong start in 2026 as well, with 147 wins while traveling across the circuit from Saratoga to Pocono Downs and The Meadowlands, showcasing both consistency and versatility on multiple stages.

Q: How do you feel heading into the new season at Plainridge Park?

Brett Beckwith: Super excited and ready to get back rolling.

Q: Are there any horses in your stable this year you’re particularly excited about?

Brett Beckwith: Platinum AS.

Q: What’s it been like owning Platinum AS alongside Yannick Gingras and how did that partnership develop?

Brett Beckwith: It’s been awesome owning with Yannick, he’s a great partner, better person and has helped me a ton throughout my career.

Q: You’ve got a piece of a few horses—what’s that been like from the ownership side?

Brett Beckwith: Owning horses changed my outlook, probably for the better. It makes you realize as a driver you have to be more focused and make sure you’re doing the best you can to get the most out of the horse for the owner who has to pay those bills on it.

Q: How does preparing for Plainridge’s track differ from other tracks you race at?

Brett Beckwith: No difference for me in preparation.

Q: What’s your favorite memory or moment at Plainridge Park so far in your career?

Brett Beckwith: Racing in my grandfather’s memorial.

Q: How do you mentally and physically prepare for race day?

Brett Beckwith: I always have a good workout, sauna, cold plunge and pack some nice meals.

Q: Is there a horse you’ve driven that stands out as a favorite, either for performance or personality?

Brett Beckwith: Platinum AS — consistent and tough.

Q: When a race doesn’t go the way you hope, how do you handle it and stay focused?

Brett Beckwith: Try and turn the page (not the best at it). You just have to remember that the next person you drive for is a different trainer or owner and needs your best effort.

Q: What do you enjoy most about harness racing that keeps you motivated season after season?

Brett Beckwith: Competitiveness. People can say whatever they want about you, but at the end of the day, your hard work is what gets you to be successful.

Q: How do you handle the pressure when you’re in a tight stretch drive?

Brett Beckwith: Don’t let the horse think he’s all done — keep him brave.

Q: Any personal rituals or superstitions before you hop into the sulky?

Brett Beckwith: I always listen to some good music 20–25 minutes prior to racing and talk to my man John Rallis to get his insight.

Q: Are there specific milestones or accomplishments you’re aiming for this year at Plainridge?

Brett Beckwith: Not really — just stay competitive, win races and travel around for stakes.

With the season right around the corner, fans can expect Brett Beckwith to bring his usual mix of skill, strategy and heart to every drive. Whether it’s guiding a promising newcomer or racing a seasoned campaigner, Brett is ready to give the Plainridge Park crowd plenty of reasons to cheer this year. Keep an eye on the starting gate – this is one driver who always delivers excitement.

Racing returns to Plainridge Park on Monday, April 13, with a 4:00 PM post time to kick off the new season.
