Back to back is possible in Green Mile

If last year’s winner Henry Hubert wins today’s Methven Four Square Supermarket Green Mile he’ll emulate A G’s White Socks.

Since the first Green Mile in 2000, A G’s White Socks has been the only horse so far to go back to back.

Driven by Ricky May on both occasions, he won in the fastest time in 2017 (1:55.0) and the slowest on a dead track (2:03.9) a year later. May also holds the record for the Trotters’ Green Mile with Everbody Knows in 2017 (1:58.4).

With regular driver Tim Williams opting for Alta Wiseguy, John Dunn will drive Henry Hubert today, with Blair Orange taking the reins behind Classie Brigade.

Both Henry Hubert and Classie Brigade opened at $7 on the fixed odds, with It’s All About Faith (Mark Purdon) the favourite at $3.20, ahead of Alta Wiseguy ($4.20) and Cranbourne ($4.50).

As well as training and driving the favourite for the pacers, Mark Purdon trains and drives the red hot favourite in the Fastrack Insurance Green Mile Trot with Oscar Bonavena at minuscule odds ($1.08).

A New Zealand Cup week double has the horse primed for a winning debut on grass. Stablemate American Pride is the second favourite at $8.

The defending champion The Dominator is back for trainer Donna Williamson at $21. Last year he won in 2:02.4.
