Harness racing best bets and tips for Saturday.

Bulletproof Boy is chasing a hard-earned victory when he contests the FFA at Melton on Saturday night.

The resuming Fighter Command stands in front of Bulletproof Boy in the sixth event at Melton. A couple of races later and Breeders Crown 3YO Colts & Geldings Final winner Captain Perfect is having his first run since winning that $100,000 feature event in December.

Looking north, other highlights around the country include a fast class race with Horn Player, Bainbridge and Miki Pins at Menangle, and then a Junior FFA and FFA at Albion Park. The latter sees Cheerstolou return after a New South Wales campaign against the topliners.

Here is our Saturday night harness racing preview.

Race 8

An NR up to 105 contest that sees the return of the Emma Stewart-trained CAPTAIN PERFECT (6), a four-year-old entire with 19 starts for nine wins and seven minor placings. He was last seen winning the Group 2 Breeders Crown 3YO Colts & Geldings Final (2240m) here back in December. He was super tough winning from the breeze on that occasion in 1:53.6. His recent trial was excellent and should be ready to run a huge race.

JILLIBY NITRO (8) spoiled the Mach Dan retirement party and will be looking to upstage the likely favourite here. He has been smashing the clock all preparation and if he gets a bit of luck, will be dangerous. MY ULTIMATE BARNEY (7) was no match for Captains Mistress in a pair of Menangle runs, although he did things wrong in one of them. More of a place chance against the favoured pair. Next best is SON OF MAC NZ (5).

Selections: 6-8-7-5

CAPTAIN PERFECT (6) to win

Trifecta: 6,8 / 6,7,8 / 5,6,7,8

Race 9

The gate speed of ROCKINWITHATTITUDE (7) should see her fly across at the start to lead and if she trots throughout, she will prove very hard to beat. She wasn’t on her best manners in the Group 1 Hammerhead Mile (1609m) won by Keayang Zahara. She threw away any opportunity of running a minor placing in that event.

I AM WILMA (4) recently clashed with ROCKINWITHATTITUDE (7) but could only manage second best behind her. There is a huge chance she trails and will get her chance via the sprint lane. Outside of that, PINNIE (5) and ALDEBARAN ACRUX USA (6) can fill a minor placing in the race.

Selections: 7-4-5-6

Race 4

The return of Donny Smith’s CHEERSTOLOU (7) after contesting the Group 2 Newcastle Mile (1609m), a Miracle Mile qualifier and the Group 2 Light Horse FFA (1609m). His best finish in those races was a fourth placing. He will be looking to zip over at the start and his record at the track is phenomenal with 10 starts for nine wins. He is $1.45 though and I would prefer to see if he bounces back from some hard racing first.

FRANKIE FEROCIOUS (4) is racing in tremendous form with Nathan Dawson driving and they were a narrow second last start behind Tiger Band Wagon. Not too sure where he will map but he is versatile and should run a good race. TIMS A TROOPER (6) is consistent and has each-way claims. IM THE FALCON NZ (8) could be an improver with a bit more luck in running from a soft draw.

Selections: 4-7-6-8

FRANKIE FEROCIOUS (4) to win
