Artillery adds the Kadina Cup to his expanding Country Cups record
South Australian Country Cups series opened on Monday with the running of the Kadina Cup
The South Australian Country Cups series opened on Monday with the running of the Kadina Cup, and it was the evergreen Artillery who added yet another feature to his résumé.

A brilliant juvenile who claimed both the Lordship Stakes and Southern Cross at two, Artillery later enjoyed a successful stint in New South Wales before returning to build an imposing country-cups record. His recent haul includes the 2023 Christmas Cup, followed by victories in the Italian Cup, Gawler Cup, Victor Harbor Cup, and now, as an eight-year-old, the Kadina Cup.
With momentum behind him, Artillery now turns his attention to this Sunday’s $11,000 Kapunda Cup, the next stop on the busy country-cups circuit.
In the Kadina Trotters Cup, Phoebe Onyx prevailed for trainer Ryan Hryhorec and driver Gaita Pullicino, edging out stablemate Is That A Bid after both began from the 30-metre handicap. Front-runner Madame Kelly boxed on gamely for third.
Mount Gambier Gold Cup Heats This Friday Night
Attention now shifts to the South East, where two heats of the 2026 Mount Gambier Gold Cup will be run under lights this Friday night. Both heats have attracted full fields of 10, ensuring competitive racing and genuine depth.
The first five finishers in each heat will progress to the $18,000 Mount Gambier Gold Cup Final on March 14, setting up a strong lead-in to one of the region’s key feature nights.
