Aldebaran Ada and Munny the Munster in Nutrien Equine 3YO Trotters success

Aldebaran Ada and Munny the Munster in Nutrien Equine 3YO Trotters success

Young harness racing driver Taylor Youl won her biggest race to date when she guided Aldebaran Ada (Brilliantissme) to an emphatic win in the $125,000 Bush and Campbell Accountants Nutrien Series Final for Three year old trotting fillies at Wagga on Saturday evening.

A convincing winner of her Heat Aldebaran Ada was second favourite to Jilliby Aura whose stable was going for the double after their previous success with Bumper Crop.

ALDEBARAN ADA 30 MAY REPLAY

The Rickie Alchin trained Desiring Diamonds showed her customary speed early but eventually Jilliby Aura after being given time to settle down took up the running. Hallebesofine raced up outside the leader in the seven horse field while Aldebaran Ada obtained the perfect one out and one back trail.

Her task was made easier as Jilliby Aura didn’t get a great deal of peace in the lead. Hallebesofine continued to eyeball the leader so it was obvious that Aldebaran Ada would have the drop on the leaders.

However instead of pulling out on the final bend, Youl waited patiently for the inside run. Once the opening appeared, Aldebaran Ada sprinted quickly to record a decisive win over a gallant Hallebesofine who never gave up despite a torrid run. Jilliby Aura was three metres away in third.

It says a lot about Taylor Youl’s ability as trainer Chris Svanosio was quite content to her to drive Aldebaran Ada in both Heat and Final and she has now been successful in both events. Prior to her Wagga wins, Aldebaran Ada finished an unlucky third to Gladiatrix in the New South Wales Trotters Oaks.

The colts and geldings division was taken out by Munny The Munster (Love You)  who scored a well deserved win in the $125,000 Yabby Dam Farms Trotters Final.  A model of consistency Munny The Munster had only been out of place once in his ten previous starts and he continued that pattern with his clear win.

Driven by reinswoman Stacey Towers for her husband trainer Mark Lee, Munny The Munster was quick enough out of the gate to lead and in the early stages he tended to over race which may have caused his supporters some concern.

MUNNY THE MUNSTER 30 MAY REPLAY

But second favourite The Preacher was back in the field with driver Chris Alford looking to make one run in the final lap. But Munny The Munster kept going, even though last season’s leading two year old Howdy Mate moved up to race outside the leader. However he looked to be struggling to stay in touch and Munny The Munster burst clear with a winning break as they straightened. The Preacher was facing an impossible task from the rear where he was out wide.

But it was all Munny The Munster as he cruised to the line under 20 metres ahead of The Preacher who did a good job in the circumstances to take second with Howdy Mate holding on for third.

Munny The Munster was only just beaten in the New South Wales Trotters Derby behind Pastor Dunbar so it was appropriate that he take out a big event. He’s now won three races with seven placings from his eleven starts for date and $118,367 in stake money.

He’s sure to make his presence felt later in the season with the VicBred Series and the Victoria Trotters Derby later this season.
