SUMMERSIDE, PE – Rail control coupled with an aggressive drive was a recipe for success in the Monday afternoon harness racing feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Rash B Havior left from post 1 in the $2,100 feature event on the special Labour Day Monday card at Red Shores Summerside. Marc Campbell sent the son of Lis Mara to the front for every call as he laid down fractions of 28.1, 58.4 and 1:28 while never seeing a challenge. The mile was closed out in 1:56.1 for Rash B Havior with Zero Rate (Driven by Adam Merner) finishing second and Ultimatelyhandsome (Corey MacPherson) third. The 1-4-5 triactor paid out at $157.70.
It was one of four wins on the afternoon card for Campbell as the Winsloe reinsman continues his lead in the Prince County driving standings with 42 victories on the season. Campbell's other wins came with Bet Er All in 1:59.1 for trainer Ralph Sweet of O'Leary while the driver's own stable was unbeatable yet again as he sent out two horses and landed two wins with Keepcalmdanceon in 2:00.2 and Woodmere Angela in 2:04.4.
Walter Cheverie solidified his spot in third place in the Summerside standings with three wins on the afternoon to give him 21 on the season. Cheverie visited the winner's circle with his own Bowyer Hanover in 2:00.4, George in 2:02.1 for trainer George Riley of Summerside and Bignprecious in 2:00 for trainer Garth Cole of Kensington.
MacPherson had a driving double winning with Midnight Play in 1:58.2 for trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague and with Patrick Q in 2:02 for owner Darla MacEachern of Kensington.
Norris Rogers had two victories in the bike Monday, winning with Instant Shadow for trainer Sifroi Melanson of Greater Lakeburn, N.B., in 2:00.2 and with Frank Banks' Bob Vivant Hanover with a 2:00.1 victory.
MacPherson Front And Centre Saturday At Red Shores Charlottetown
Saturday was a good night to be Corey MacPherson as the Cornwall driver had five wins at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
MacPherson opened and closed the 13-dash program with wins as Dustylanekazaam was a 2:02.3 winner for trainer Paul MacDonald of Cornwall in race 1 followed by a lull in winner's circle performances for the 28-year-old driver. Jetta Flys was sent down the highway later on the card for a 1:57.1 win for MacPherson and trainer Stephen Quinn of Stratford then it was major upset time as Brodys Leona captured the $2,250 Fillies and Mares Open pace in 1:59.2 at 16-1 odds powering past last week's winner, Good Luck Kathy, in the final strides. Melissa Rennie trains Brodys Leona for owners Lisa Richards of Cornwall and Kerry and Emily Taylor of Stratford. Good Luck Kathy (Driven by Jason Hughes) was second in the $2,250 event while Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) was third. The 5-6-4 triactor paid $922.45 for a $2 ticket.
The MacPherson show continued after the Fillies and Mares Open as Jetster was a 1:58.1 winner in a $1,400 event for trainer Marc Campbell, then his fifth win came in the finale with Painted Desert scoring in 1:57.1 for trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague.
The $2,400 evening feature saw Nogreatmischief score a mild upset with trainer and co-owner Walter Cheverie in the bike for fellow owner John Thompson of Charlottetown. Adkins Hanover (MacPherson) laid down the early fractions of 27.2, 55.1 and 1:25.1 but gave way in the stretch for Nogreatmischief to reign victorious with Rose Run Quest (Lenny Myers) second and Forever Paradise (Gilles Barrieau) third. The 4-2-3 triactor in that race paid out a healthy $497.40 for a $2 ticket. The win was one of two on the card for Cheverie as he also won with JK Rocket in 1:59.2 for trainer Joe Smallwood of Stratford.
Jason Hughes had two winners on the program as Pownal Bay Saul was a 1:57.1 winner for trainer Tom Weatherbie of Charlottetown and Celebrate Your Bet was a 2:01.2 winner for trainer Nick Oakes of Warren Grove. It was one of two wins on the card for Oakes as Twin B Shadow (Ken Murphy) was also a 1:58.3 winner.
Ron Matheson made his presence felt in his return to the race bike as he converted a two-hole ride into a visit to the winner's circle with Starcastic in 1:58.2 for trainer and son Jackie Matheson. The elder Matheson had been out of competition since May when he was injured in the race paddock.
