DOVER, Del.— Just as he had done sweeping two $20,000 prelims, Master Clave went right to the front and was in total command scoring a 1:59 triumph in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Three-Year-Old Male Trot, the first of a final week-long Delaware-sired harness racing championships.
Ross Wolfenden was at the controls as the altered son of the late Master Lavec from Dilly Dally Delia by Maryland's finest trotter Go Get Lost won his third consecutive start of the year and eighth in 11 career races. Trained by John Wilkerson for breeder-owner Ben Brooks, Master Lavec skied his bankroll to $166,750 lifetime.
Master Clave made up for his performance in last November's two-year-old DSBF $100,000 when he was the odds-on favorite but was overtaken after leading and finished fourth.
Jiggs, a prelim winner, was second from the start with Vic Kirby driving. Kirby In Command and Jared Moyer was third in front of Yagot A Winner with Carlo Poliseno and the Art Stafford-driven Master Kingpin who got the fourth and fifth place payoffs, respectively.
Another Guess pulled the surprise of the day when Allan Davis steered the Dragon Again-Lauren's San soph gelding to a 35-1 upset in 1:54.3 to win a 3&4-Year-Old male pace.
Davis, Ross Wolfenden and Corey Callahan had driving doubles.
DSBF SOPH FILLY PACE $100,000 FINAL, $20,000 MARES OPEN TUESDAY
Logan’s Girl and Spanish Dream, both owned trained by Jim King for his wife, JoAnn Looney-King are the favorites in the $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Three-Year-Old Filly Pace on the last Tuesday card of the meet at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Logan’s Girl won her second $20,000 leg last week giving her three wins in four starts this year and nine of 12 lifetime. She starts from post 5 in the final with Vic Kirby in the bike. Meanwhile Spanish Dream, driven by Tim Tetrick, a six-time winner of 12 races lifetime races as a separate entry in the eight filly field. Last week she was upset by 40-1 Wyatt Starkey and co-owner, trainer, driver Art Stafford’s Lunar Phase, who drew the rail. George Teague’s Bad Mama, handled by Montrell Teague brings a three win in four races record into the fray.
Jim Morand will pilot Donna Messick and Nanticoke Racing’s Cashmere’s Delight who has finished second twice in $20,000 DSBF prelims for trainer Les Givens. Another prelim winner George Leager’s Diva Demands will be driven by Corey Callahan). The rest of field includes the Tony Morgan driven A Lady Sizzling and Thompson Sisters Racing’s Free Flight Frank with Ross Wolfenden who is burdened with post 8.
The $20,000 DSBF consolation is led by Westwind Roddylee (Tetrick), bred and owned by Joel and Dianne Halpern and The King combine’s Lillisbagsrpacking (Kirby).
The top older female pacers featuring six- time event winner Bryan Truitt’s Enhance Your Mind (Kirby) tangle in the $20,000 Mares Open Handicap pace on the regular card. KDK Standardbred’s Apple Bottom Jeans (Teague) a1:51.4 track record setter recently at Rosecroft JFE Enterprise’s Scandalicious (Tetrick), sharp Sweet Bobbie (Stafford Jr.) racing for owner- trainer Gary Ewing; Barbara’s Shadow (Morgan) who has been a winning machine all meet, head the strong lineup.
An excellent supporting card is on the 15-race Tuesday program.
Wednesday and Thursday live racing, which completes the Dover Downs 2016-2017 meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
