Draw in favour of Zimfandel

Zimfandel, who recorded the fastest time of two heat winners on the first day, is drawn to win the $10,000 graduation final (race 8) at Waikouaiti on Tuesday.

Zimfandel will be driven by Dexter Dunn. Blair Orange who drove Zimfandel on Sunday, is required for Regal Grin, a good second to Maddisons Desire on Sunday.

Zimfandel ran the 1800m (mobile) in 2.18.9, 1.9sec faster than Maddisons Desire. Both are 3-year-olds by Real Desire.

The gelding Zimfandel is more seasoned than the filly Maddisons Desire. He has drawn three and Maddisons Desire will start from the second line. The John Howe –trained Maddisons Desire is above average with two wins from five starts.

Zimfandel was among four winners for trainer Bruce Negus on the first day. Two of his other winners Sundons Flyer (race 7) and Zulu Courage (race 10) will also attempt to complete doubles for the meeting.

“They all had such easy races on the first day through good runs. There is every reason to expect them to go well again,” said Negus.

“Blair did not take the hood off Sundons Flyer and Zimfandel is very fit.”

Negus remained at Seacliff (near Waikouaiti) and gave his horses  the day off work on Monday.

Wozniacki is a newcomer to the Waikouaiti meeting worthy of attention in race 10.

Trained at Swannanoa by Jack Harrington, Wozniacki won on grass at Motukarara on January 29 in a 2.00.5 rate for 2000m (mobile) and followed up with a third at Rangiora on February 6.  She has a standing start to master on Tuesday from a 10m handicap.
