Political Briefing pair make $100,000 Finals

DOVER, Del.— In the 2nd and final Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) $20,000 prelims, Spoonful and Willow Mill Anna notched victories while Theresademoninme won the $20,000 Open Trot Handicap to highlight the Wednesday, Nov. 16th  harness racing program at Dover Downs.

Spoonful made it a Political Briefing sired pair of winners. The Delbert Cain and Nanticoke Racing filly won the fastest prelim with driver Jim Morand collecting his third success of the day. The Les Givens trainee won for the third time this campaign registering a 2:01.1 victory in one of the two prelim divisions. Gogh Cinorita (Ross Wolfenden) was right there second with Political Energy (Corey Callahan) the show horse.

In the other $20,000 section, Willow Mill Anna battled Ohtobetheone down the backstretch before pulling away on the final turn on the way to a second straight prelim win for driver-trainer Gordon Barrett and his Willow Mill Stable. The Political Briefing-Likes Samantha bay has now won three of her seven stars and $40,000 this year. Segway (Frank Milby), off at 61-1, trotted past Ohtobetheone (Jason Thompson) in mid-stretch to finish second.

The top eight point-earners after the two prelims return next Wednesday for the $100,000 DSBF final.

On the regular card'; An inside post position turned out a positive for Theresademoninme, a Kadabra-Tortoni gelding who scored his second win in his three outings to reduce his lifetime record to 1:53.1 in the $20,000 Open Trot Handicap, the second win on the card for trainer Dylan Davis and owner Mike Casalino. Last week's winner Glenferrie Dreamer (Pat Berry) came on strong to finish second beaten by a neck. IL Mag (Tim Tetrick) garnered third place.

The race before, Cory Callahan and a local favorite Tough Mac posted a 1:54 clocking in a $15,500 sub-feature Winners-Over trot. The Dylan Davis trainee for Mike Casalino won for the third time this year and upped his career bankroll to $301,794. Bluebird Reverend (Montrell Teague) closed with a rush to take second-place in front of Tag Up And Go (Berry).

Arnold, a three-year-old Donato Hanover-Precious lady gelding made three wins in-a-row as meet leading driver Vic Kirby guided a 1:56.3 win for owner-trainer Leigh Raymer. Arnold won for the sixth time in 2016 winning the $13,500 3,4&5-year-old trot. Bowdie De Vie (Allan Davis) and Wygant Angel (Jack Parker) were second and third respectively.

Tim Tetrick and Jim Morand had three winning drives, Vic Kirby and Yannick Gingras; trainers Dylan Davis and Jim King, plus owner- trainer Leigh Raymer and owner Mike Casalino had two wins each.

There is no Live Sunday racing this week. Monday through Thursday, post time is 4:30 p.m. There is no live racing on Fridays. Saturdays and Sundays this meet.

HENRY THE DRAGON FAVORITE IN $100,000 DSBF FROSH COLT FINAL

After two preliminary legs the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) $100,000 freshmen colt and gelding pace heads the Thursday, Nov. 17 program at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.

After five straight impressive victories, Henry The Dragon with driver Montrell Teague is the one to beat in a field of eight who qualified for the second $100,000 of the year. Already, an easy winner of Harrington Raceway’s October finale for owner George Teague, Henry The Dragon drew post 6. 

Tina and Brian Clark’s Automatic Dragon handled by Vic Kirby, who has recorded two wins, two seconds in his five lifetime starts, leaves from the rail with Apple Heir and Jason Green, a winner of two of his last four outings, alongside for Willard Hall and trainer Brian Wright. Three other starters have victories in their last starts, Jason Skinner and Only Money Inc.’s Bags To Riches was a wire-to-wire 1:53 winner last week and will be driven by Tim Tetrick. George Teague’s other homebreds, Daylen with Jim Morand and Stay In Your Place, racing for Teague and K&R Racing, who owned and raced the great female pacer Rainbow Blue, won his prelim in 1:53.4 but must come from outside post 8 with Kevin Switzer Jr. in the bike.

Other fast starters include the speedy James Isaac with Tony Morgan and Dorothy Hock and Katherine Ricci’s Hallie’s Comet piloted by Ross Wolfenden who completes the field for $100,000 DSBF final.

Wake Up And Go, racing for Charles Winbrow and Jimmy Lunn (Corey Callahan), George Teague and Teague Racing Partnership’s Rat Tail (Montrell Teague) and breeder, owner and trainer Virginia Louthan’s Suspinder (Allan Davis) lead the $20,000 DSBF consolation.
