Six year old wins first start

Wyndham harness racing winner Jimmy Nga is not your ordinary race day winner.

For a start, he qualified two months ago as a six year old and not many professional trainers or owners would wait that long to get a horse to the races. Secondly he's out of a mare that despite being well bred, is now used as a hack to bring the cows in for milking.

Jimmy Nga was bred by Neil Timms of Riversdale and is raced by Timms in partnership with co-trainer Colin Lee who drove the Gotta Go Cullect gelding to win today. He's out of  Alta Biannca.

"I bought Alta Biannca at Karaka. Bruce Campbell worked her up but she was a bit of a daisy clipper. She might have won a race but we put her in foal to Gotta Go Cullect and I gave a half share to Colin Lee. As a yearling he used to strike himself so we put him out for 18 months at Waipunamu. When he came back he was as big as a bull so it's taken about 18 months to get him down to a manageable size. He must have been alright because Colin wouldn't have persevered with him until he was six," said Timms.

Alta Biannca is by Presidential Ball out of the Dexter Nukes mare Alta Magari. Alta Magari's best foal was Millview Sarah which won nine races for owner Mike Stormont.

"I gave her (Alta Biannca) to the next door neighbours to get the cows in so she rounds up 1200 cows a day. If she leaves a cup horse I could always get her back as long as I replace it with another one."

Jimmy Nga was taken straight to the top by Lee and won easily by four and a half lengths running the 2400 metres in 3-02.6.
