Charlottetown, PE – The fall racing schedule hits full stride this weekend with harness racing cards Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park. Post time is 12:30pm.
Doing Some Damage has drawn the rail in the Saturday afternoon top class for driver Corey MacPherson, trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Kent Livingston, Cornwall. The seven-year-old is coming off a fourth place in the mud at Summerside last week and steps up to take on Clic K, owned by Plo stables, Donagh, PE, who is listed as the 5-2 morning line favorite. Marc Campbell will do the driving for trainer Jackie Matheson. Campbell is having another great season racking up 117 wins at Charlottetown going into the program. He broke the all-time win s title on December 10, 2011 with 119 victories and ended the 2012 campaign with a new season benchmark of 130 trips to victory lane. Campbell is potentially on a record setting pace to reach his 2012 milestone with 12 cards remaining on the 2016 calendar.
The feature also has Motorino with trainer Terry Gallant in the bike for his co-owner Eric Johnston, Summerside, PE. The black pacer, who has great gate speed, put in a big trip last week from post 8 and gets to rally from the 4 hole in this match-up. The field also includes heavy-hitters such as Forever Paradise (Michael McGuigan), DBS Rosco (Kenny Arsenault), First Art Down (Ken Murphy), Rash B Havior (Gary Chappell) and Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson).
Mr MacLeod is favored to win the Joyriders Pace in race 7 for MacPherson, trainer Kyle Wilkie and owner Mallory Lewis, St Peters Bay, PE. The annual Drive for the Charity comes to a close on Saturday with trackside cheque presentations being made to local charities by the participating business sponsors and drivers. The ceremony will be held after race 2.
Red Shores Sunday
D GS Camme takes aim at his third win in a row in the Sunday afternoon feature in race 9. The Jackie Matheson trainee, owned by driver Ron Matheson, Tom Clark, Quentin and Hal Bevan, Charlottetown, PE, has 8 scores from 15 starts this season with close to $30,000 in the bank. The son of Blissfull Hall leaves from post 5 against Painted Desert (Adam Merner), Drivingthedragon N (Jason Hughes), Ramblinglily (Ken Murphy) and Eagle Jolt who also has back to back victories.
Regular pilot Marc Campbell has booked off his drives Sunday to attend the Harrisburg Mixed Sale in Pennsylvania so young Ryan Desroche gets the driving assignment from the boss.
Conditioner Jennifer Trainor of Vernon Bridge has two stable stars riding win streaks on the card. Santanna Sam goes for his fourth in a row in race 7 while Cheyenne Ford takes his three race win streak into race 13. Michael McGuigan gets the call to drive.
