York mixed sale in England brings big numbers

On Saturday 8th October, the annual Camden Stud/York Standardbred Sale took place in front of a bumper crowd, with a larger than expected number of buyers registered.

Twenty-four lots passed through the ring, with the largest consignment from Camden Stud, who hosted the sale. Brywins Ltd., Ayr Standardbreds and Greentree Standardbreds were amongst others who also supported the sale with additional yearlings.

The accolade of sale topper belonged to another Camden yearling, the Art Professor colt from the Hasty Hall mare, Rhyds Kayla: BOBBY CAMDEN. The second foal from the mare, herself a full sister to British superstars Rhyds Hallstar and Rhyds Fivestar, sold for £21,000.

Art Professor's first crop clearly impressed the buyers, with the fillies ROBYN CAMDEN (out of Keystone Havoc (Shady Character)) and ISABELLA CAMDEN (out of Belovedangel (Artsplace)) selling for £15,200 and £11,500 respectively, both destined for Ireland.

The Bettors Delight colt, RONNIE CAMDEN, generated much interest in the lead up to the sale, being the only full American yearling on offer on the day. Imported in utero, the colt out of Musical Tone (Matts Scooter) fetched £20,000, making him the second highest-priced lot on the day.

In total there were 27 horses entered; 24 were presented for sale through the ring. Of these 24, four were not sold. The total sale value was £116,400.

The average price across all horses forward was £4850. The total sale value of the yearlings was £111,650. The average yearling price was £5,876.36. The Camden Stud yearlings made a total of £99,000. The average price per Camden Stud yearling was £11,000.

The average yearling price is almost double the 2015 average, which illustrates again how influential the juvenile and stakes race series' in the UK and Ireland are on the yearling sales.

With the majority of yearlings sold eligible for the Vincent Delaney Memorial, Breeders Crown, Sire Stakes and Little Welsh Dragon in 2017, it is more than possible that next year's champion passed through the ring on this day.
