Compact field contests Red Shores feature

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Anyone aiming to land in the Thursday night harness racing feature winner's circle needs to knock off Nogreatmischief to do it this week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 10-dash card gets underway at 6:30 P.M. with a tight knit field of five pacerslining up in the $2,200 feature pace in race 9. Nogreatmischief is the morning line choice from post 5 with Walter Cheverie in the bike behind the six-year-old son of Bettor's Delight who has been rock solid all season on P.E.I., with a second place finish in his latest while pacing in 1:54.4 at Red Shores Charlottetown. Cheverie also co-owns and trains the pacer with co-owner John Thompson of Charlottetown. Perfect Escape has post 2 in the field with the front-running pacer fresh off two winning efforts for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Jackie Matheson. The ultra-consistent Oh To Be Me also leaves from post 3 for owner-trainer-driver Gary Chappell of Charlottetown.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac sees Nogreatmischief as the top entry despite his outside post in the field of five.

"Nogreatmischief didn't quite get there last week but it was close," MacIsaac said. "He gets an even more compact field tonight, great for his rallying style, and if he matches any of his recent efforts the road to the winners circle could go through him."

Also in the Thursday feature field is Jeb (Driven by Jason Hughes) and Red Magician (Adam Merner).

The weekly Open trot features a field of five with Dusty Lane Jacob getting top billing in the $1,850 class on the heels of 14-straight on the board finishes for trainer Cindy MacDonald of Montague, who co-owns the son of Nureyev with Tanya MacKinnon of Souris. Adam Merner drives the six-year-old who will look to capitalize on the absence of some of the top trotters on the East Coast. Other entries this week include Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee), Wedgewood (Gary Chappell), Frill Seeker (Kenny Arsenault) and Professor Gordon (Terry Gallant).
