“One of the questions we get asked often here at Harnesslink by a number of our readers and harness racing advertisers is when it gets close to yearling sale time rolling around; what do people see as the normal traits of the stock of a particular stallion.”
Stock by Mach Three for insistence are seen rightly or wrongly as having the ability to get a touch hot by most trainers but it has never stopped him being a leading sire.
Sons and daughters of Bettor's Delight are genuinely considered to be a lot more laid back and appear to step up on raceday in most trainers view.
They are just opinions that people express to us but bourne out by experience with stock by these stallions over a long period.
One of the tricky questions we like to avoid is how do you compare yearlings to their full brothers or sisters who are already doing a huge job on the racetrack.
It has always been a tricky question for buyers but one that has become more and more prevalent in recent years at the sales.
Type is obviously the major consideration here and the one that trainers focus on in such situations.
The other major consideration for us is we much prefer a yearling that looks like stock that the sire in question produces on a regular basis.
If it is meant to be a Bettor's Delight colt on paper, then we prefer it look like a Bettor's Delight in the flesh.
Looking through this years Australasian Classic Yearling Sale catalogue at Karaka on February 22nd, a good example for us is Lot 9, Cha Cha B.
He is a colt by Bettor's Delight and is a full brother to last seasons outstanding three year old My Kiwi Mate 1:53.7 ($129,467)
“Everything is right on the pedigree page with Cha Cha B being bred on the 'Golden' Bettor's Delight – In The Pocket cross and the grand-dam being the former star three year old filly Classical 1:57.7 ($291,590).”
Moving to the photos and videos and to us Cha Cha B looks every inch your typical Bettor's Delight colt and a great type to boot.
So Cha Cha B has the attributes we think are important in yearlings that are full brothers or sisters to star performers and he should attract a lot of interest on February 22nd.
Lot 9, Cha Cha B.
