Juvenile stakes showdowns Sunday

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Sunday afternoon will see a two-year-old stakes invasion at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as the Prince County Harness Racing Oval plays host to the Joe O'Brien Memorial and Lady Slipper stakes.

First race post time is 1 P.M. for the 10-dash card with over $71,000 in purse money on the lines. Royaltywestho is favored in one of the richest tests of the day but has to overcome the outside post position for a $10,750 pot in a Lady Slipper Gold Division for two-year-old pacing fillies. Walter Cheverie drives the talented two-year-old daughter of Westwardho Hanover in race 3 for trainer Joe Baxter of Nova Scotia who co-owns the filly with Gregory Francis of Windsor, N.S. Royaltywestho sports a record of three wins and a second from four lifetime starts as she looks to add to her $15,657 bankroll in Sunday afternoon's $10,750 division.

The other $10,750 two-year-old pacing filly Lady Slipper division is in race 7 with Woodmere Ceilidh drawing post 5 in a field of six for trainer-driver Clare MacDonald and owner Chris Neville of Sydney, N.S. The daughter of Articulator had a maiden breaking victory in her last start with a 1:59.2 victory at Red Shores Charlottetown.

The card has a trio of two-year-old pacing fillies Lady Slipper Grassroots divisions for $5,500 purses in races 1, 4 and 8.

The Joe O'Brien Stakes for two-year-old pacing colts hit the track in Gold Division action in races 5 and 9 for $9,400 purses in each. Race 9 had Summerside track record holder Sock It Away leaving from post 5 with Marc Campbell driving for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. The undefeated son of Pang Shui will face off with Half Cut (Driven by Mark Bradley) leaving from post 2 sporting a 1:57.4 lifetime mark.

The $9,400 Joe O'Brien Gold division in race 5 has Dustylanewesty with the favorable post 2 for trainer-driver MacDonald and owners Ian Tate of St. Andrew's, N.S., and Riley Farms Ltd of Summerside. The son of Westwardho Hanover is fresh off a 1:58 lifetime best in a division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes during Old Home Week Racing in Charlottetown.

The Joe O'Brien memorial grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing colts line up in races 2, 6 and 10 with the final dash featuring the $100,000 Dash For Cash promotion with two lucky patrons getting a shot at the grand prize.
