Kate Gath’s outsmarts the field with My Little Bo

Home / Australia / Kate Gath’s outsmarts the field with My Little Bo

Prominent reinswoman Kate Gath was spot on when she guided My Little Bo (Captain
Crunch) to lead all the way to win the Nevele R Stud pace for mares at Melton on Saturday
evening.

The race was predicted to be a two clash between the capable mare Jilliby Illuminate and
the lightly raced Soap And Bubbles who was the only runner from the second row. Jilliby
Illuminate ended favourite just ahead of Soap And Bubbles.

Crusader Miss was quickly out but My Little Bo pressed on and Gath was able to find the
lead rather comfortably.

Jilliby Illuminate was wide early but ended up five back on the rails with Soap And Bubbles
was back at the rear as well on the fence as the field raced in Indian file.

But My Little Bo was about 20 metes in front of her main rivals and with running her first
two quarters in 30 and 30.6 seconds it was always obvious that she would that those behind
would have a task in catching her.

MY LITTLE BO 21 FEB REPLAY

And that’s precisely how it turned out as My Little Bo ran her last two quarters in 27.9 and
28.1 seconds. Bringsusjoy finished on well for second while former Queenslander Madrigal
was doing her best work for third.

The Gath has been fairly quiet of late and Kate Gath certainly expressed her delight at the
win.

“How good was that. Leading makes a big difference. Shooting out the gate was terrific and
once she found the front I thought I’d just roll along because she doesn’t have the high class
speed to go with those girls as we saw at Kilmore when I led and walked over the short.
She’s really comfy out in front doing it pretty easy and it worked in our favour.”

When you get in on the fence she’ll be in any field on the fence and run on really good at
the finish. She showed in the Oaks last year.

She’s a quality mare all the owners are on track here tonight. And its really good to get the
win. And one for Team Teal. I’ve had a pretty team for Team Teal. It’s really good to raise
funds for Ovarian cancer.
