Leading Victorian reinsman holds sway after the first night’s racing at Albion Park in the Ultimate Drivers Championship on Friday evening.
In an enthralling contest three drivers namely Herbertson, Gary Hall Jnr and defending champion Angus Garrard drove winning doubles.

In the ten event program, Hall Jnr struck early with doubles in races one and four on Jekamias (Betterthancheddar) and Sii Sempre Tilly (Always B Miki) to establish a clear lead on the table early on.
Then it was Angus Garrard who stepped up in Races five and eight with wins on Tommy Bligh (Highview Tommy) and the very heavily backed Princess Arna (Ultimate Machete) who led all the way to record success.
Probably the most interesting double was taken by Herbertson with two very unlikely performers. The veteran twelve year old gelding Grey Cadillac (Rocknroll Hanover) showed he’s still not finished yet when he sat outside the leader throughout but drew away to record a strong ten metre win over his younger rivals running 1.53.9.

Herbertson’s double came in the final event with trotter Look For Tascott (Skyvalley) who powered home in the trotters event. Raced and bred by Bruce Wyburn Look For Tascott is the elder half brother to the outstanding mare Susan Is Her Name who holds the distinction of being the only trotter to defeat Australia’s best squaregaiter at present in Keayang Zahara.
Going into the final day later this evening Herbertson has a nine point lead over Cameron Hart who was at his best guiding Sweet Dior (Sweet Lou) to an all the way win in her event. Equal with Hart in second place is Hall Jnr while Garrard is a further five points behind.

The ten event programme for this evening at 5.11pm Queensland time and a gripping night’s entertainment is ensured with keen competition amongst the ten drivers.
