Soul Artist on song with first win

Of the 17 wins Rodney Frampton has had since joining the training ranks in 2020 he rates Soul Artist’s harness racing performance at Cambridge Raceway last night as the most satisfying yet.

Frampton co-bred, co-owns and trains the Art Major – Helena Ideal four-year-old who delivered on her home track in fine style for driver Zachary Butcher in the Skyline Packages For Feb/March On Sale Mobile Pace.

It was one of the most impressive performances of the night.

“It’s great because my brother and me and our wives bred her and we have taken her all the way through,” says Frampton.

Butcher got into a handy position three back the running line before making his move at the 600.

They exploded to the front and scooted away for a six length victory.

“It was nice to watch,” says Frampton.

“She’s always had ability and that time of 2:42 (2200m mobile) was pretty good too.”

Soul Artist started favourite after a fifth on debut at Cambridge on January 9.

“In that first run she got three back the fence and never got a crack at them.”

She had been scheduled to make her debut at Alexandra Park last November but was scratched.

“She would not load onto the float that day,” says Frampton, “and she was the favourite too.”

Frampton now plans to head back to Alexandra Park at the end of the month, knowing he has a nice horse on his hands.

“She’s got a bit to learn as she’s still green,” says Frampton, “but I think she can win her fair share of races.”
