NZB Standardbred graduate Republican Party (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) was recognised for his outstanding season when crowned 2025 NZB Standardbred Horse of the Year at the Harness Racing New Zealand Awards at Addington Raceway on Saturday night.

The Cran and Chrissie Dalgety-trained entire won half of his 18 starts last term, including the Group One NZ Messenger (2700m), Group One Roy Purdon Memorial (2200m), Group One Invercargill Cup (2700m), Gr.1 Auckland Trotting Cup (3200m), Group Two Canterbury Classic (2600m), Group Two Ashburton Flying Stakes (2400m), and Group Three Summer Cup (1980m).

The son of Bettor’s Delight had two starts in Australia, placing in both the Group One Hunter Cup (2760m) and Listed Casey Classic (2240m).

Republican Party was bred by Katrina and John Price, who were crowned Breeders of the Year on Saturday night. They offered the now seven-year-old through their 2020 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft at Christchurch where he was purchased by Cran Dalgety for $210,000.

He has now won 27 of his 64 starts to date, including five at Group One level, and has amassed more than $1.2 million in prizemoney.

Republican Party was also crowned Woodlands Stud 5YO & Older Pacing Entire or Gelding Of The Year and Diamond Racing Pacer Of The Year earlier in the night.

He came up against fellow NZB Standardbred graduate Bet N Win(NZ) (What The Hill) for the Horse of the Year title after the David and Stacey White-trained squaregaiter was crowned The NZ Horse Ambulance Trust 5YO & Older Trotting Entire or Gelding Of The Year and NZB Standardbred Trotter Of The Year.

Bet N Win (NZ)

Bet N Win won three races apiece on either side of the Tasman last year, including the Group One Rowe Cup (3200m), Group One New Zealand Trotting Champs (2600m), and Group Three Trotters’ Classic (2600m), while he was runner-up in the Group One Inter Dominion Trotting Championship Grand Final (3157m).

Bred by Breckon Farms, Bet N Win was offered through their 2021 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft in Auckland where he was purchased by David White for $32,500.

He has now won 15 of his 31 starts and earned more than $550,000 in prizemoney.
