Negus has big team for Waikouaiti

Home / New Zealand / Negus has big team for Waikouaiti

With twelve runners, Burnham trainer Bruce Negus will be the busiest trainer at tomorrow’s Waikouaiti Trotting Club meeting on the grass at Oamaru.

Race One:

Foveaux Gambler (Betting Line).

“He’s been a consistently good horse when he’s been right. He went through a flat patch for a long time and I’m not a hundred percent why. I think he’s going to go a good race tomorrow. He’s got a good draw and he’s been working well, so I expect him to be hard to beat,” Negus said.

Quinn (Downbytheseaside).

“He’s in this race to gain his confidence. He goes one good race in three. This race is really made for him if the best form of Quinn turns up. He should go close.”

Race Three

The Seamstress (Sky Major)

“Hasn’t raced for nine to ten months (prior to her last start). She’s quite a big strong girl. She missed a whole lot of trials because of the wet weather but hasn’t missed much work. I was happy with her last run. I think she’s a realistic each way chance.”

Delight With Me (Bettor’s Delight)

“He’s well bred but he’s a slow learner and he’s got a bad draw. Blair Orange is in charge of him tomorrow.”

Sky News (Sky Major).

“On her form you’d say she’s got no chance, but her work’s been great. She’s matured with the trip away (to Blenheim). I suspect she’s going to go a good race.”

Race Five

The Highlander (Highview Tommy)

“He hasn’t been disappointing because nothing much is ever expected of him. The trip north has definitely sharpened him.”

Race Six

The Will (Speeding Spur)

“If she trotted all the way she’s capable of running in the first three. I’m not confident of her trotting all the way. We’ve made some improvements with her shoeing to help. She’s got the talent to do it but she’s still a work in progress.”

Race Seven

Carlin (Art Major)

“I’d imagine he’d start favourite. He’s got quite a good following with stand start racing on the grass. If he gets a suitable run he can certainly win.”

Race Eight

Follejon Star (Sky Major).

“I was thrilled with his last run. I thought he would win but the winner was just outstanding. I think he’ll go another good honest race. The barrier draw (7) makes it tricky especially in a big field. If he gets a good run he’s quite capable of finishing in the first two.”

Race Nine

Buffy Northstains (Majestic Son)

“She’s been a bit disappointing for a wee while now. Being an older mare, it’s taking a bit longer to find her true form. She’s been working well and I expect her to go a good race.”

Race Eleven

Classie Linc (Sir Lincoln)

“She’s the best horse in the race and I think she’ll win it, but she still needs to get a good run and have everything go her way. She’s got a very good record on the track and she’s working super.”

Mouton Cadet (Sir Lincoln)

“He’s beaten her (Classie Linc) here. I think he’s a realistic place chance because he never goes a bad race and he’s really good on the grass.”

Best bets:

“The Highlander and Classie Linc. The Highlander worked pretty good today (Friday).”
