Purses up, wagering slightly down for third quarter

Columbus, OH – During the third quarter of 2025, from July 1 through Sept. 30, total wagering was slightly down and purses increased for harness racing in the U.S.

The $362,026,274 wagered during July through September was $4,870,186 (1.33%) less than the $366,896,460 bet during that period in 2024.

During the third quarter, purses increased by 3.67% with the $193,168,753 distributed this year being $7,092,740 more than the $186,076,013 last year.

The per race betting average also was slightly lower, $34,647 this year compared to $35,130, a 1.89% decrease.

The number of race days and wagering per race were basically flat.

There were 25 less race days this year, 817 vs. 842, a 0.05% decrease.

The $4,730 wagered per betting interest was only $20 less than the average of $4,750 in 2024 during the third quarter.
