MATCH MET- A Few Still Hope – SRF

Email from Standardbred Retirement Foundation IMMEDIATE RELEASE Match Met – A FEW STILL HOPE – SRF Cream Ridge, NJ – 8/22/25 The $10,000 match has been met; these needy horses and the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) are immensely grateful for the many lives saved so far. A few more remain with hope that the pens will be cleared tonight by kindness and generosity. Some need as little as $150 to save their life, while others require full funding to cover their rescue and care, $4,000. as they have no home offer and still need funds to pay for their release. Donations marked for specific horses are being applied as instructed; all other contributions are being directed to those in the most desperate condition—those who are sick, lame, emaciated, and unlikely to survive the horrific journey. The Story: These desperate horses are weighed and tagged with USDA identification to cross the borders for slaughter. Some have already endured weeks of transporting from auction to auction and pen to pen without care for injuries or illness, water or feed. They are dehydrated and starving. It can take several weeks from the day they enter this pipeline until slaughter. Tragically, without help, the remaining will be shipped to Mexico where regulations are so lax that even horses unable to stand cross the border. The suffering endured is unimaginable. The Need: SRF has quarantine and care facilities on standby and needs additional facilities in Oklahoma, Tennessee, North Carolina and the Kentucky areas. The most critical needs are funding, homes and fosters. Some of these forty-seven horses include a yearling colt, a few young stallions, a few mid-aged sound and healthy horses, and elderly mares and geldings. They are crammed in pens begging for help. Their deadline is 10 PM tonight, Friday, August 22, 2025. Information is noted on the attached sheet. How You Can Help: Donate – Donations are tax-deductible and directly fund their rescue. Offer a Home or Foster – These trotters and pacers are in TN, OK, VA, NC. PA Partner with SRF – Organizations following SRF’s lifelong guardianship policy are asked to contact SRF quickly. Share This Appeal These horses gave their all on the track, in rural areas as workhorses, and for reproduction. Now they need every bit of help to save their lives and get them healthy and whole again. Help spare them from this horrific end to their lives. Every donation—no matter the size—makes a tangible difference for these horses who have nowhere else to turn. The link to donate is below.
