Nappanee Raceway, 24332 U.S. 6, Indiana is ready for another season of Trottingbreds harness racing.
For about 40 years, the track has featured horses that are a combination of Shetland and Standardbred. To race, they can stand no taller than 51 1/2 inches at the withers.
The first card of the season which is scheduled to run until mid-September is slated for Friday, May 22.
Post time is 7 p.m., but fans are encouraged to show up early to meet the drivers and see the horses.
Lawn chairs are welcome. Admission is $4 for ages 14 and over and free for ages 13 and under.
“It’s great family fun for all ages,” Nappanee Raceway president Garold Delagrange said.
Delagrange, who has been involved at Nappanee for three decades including the last eight as president, said there are typically more than 15 races per night once the season gets rolling.
Horses are placed in classes based on time in the half-mile races on the 5/16-mile track from jackpot up to free-for-all.
An International Trotting & Pacing Association fundraiser is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, at Nappanee Raceway.
A Trottingbreds and pony sale begins at 4 p.m. Friday with a driving horses sale beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
