Cream Ridge, NJ – 7/29/2025 The Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) confronts heartbreaking situations daily, but the story of a horse now named Argo is particularly disturbing — and urgent.

This Standardbred gelding emaciated, injured, and cruelly branded with the words “GRIM REAPER, RIP, ASHLEY” and the outline of Texas needs help. His body bears not only physical wounds but signs of blatant disregard for his life and suffering. We believe he may be W P Baylor Bay, though some say he is Mel’s Diner, a son of Stand Forever. What is certain is that he deserves better.
SRF stepped in — without hesitation and without secured funding — because Argo matters. Social media pleas did not secure the entire amount, he is short $299. toward his purchase, however he is now safe with SRF. He needs urgent veterinary care, extensive wound treatment, farrier and dental work, and transport to a forever home where he’ll finally know kindness. These expenses will likely reach $4,000.
What has Argo endured all these years? He was “racking” — a dangerous, unregulated form of under-saddle racing, often fueled by backyard gambling clubs. Reports suggest he was well-known in the Dallas club circuit, where horses are raced until they break down — and then discarded, often sent to slaughter when they no longer have value to their owners.
SRF is committed to Argo’s full recovery — but we need help. Your tax-deductible gift will go directly toward his care and journey to a safe and caring life.
Please be the reason this horse recovers and has kindness in his last years.
Gifts are tax-deductible.
