Cattlewash sweeps first Ontario Sires Stakes Gold races

The Somebeachsomewhere horse Cattlewash 1:46.8 ($1.3million), whose frozen semen in Australia is available from Yirribee Stud, Wagga (NSW), made a clean sweep of the first $140,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold events held at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Canada last weekend.

On Saturday, Beau Jangles led for the final three sections in the first two-year-old colt’s classic before scoring by three lengths at his debut in a season’s record 1:50.2. Another Cattlewash colt, Tilthecowscomehome, ran second.

“This colt is exceptional,” driver Bob McClure said.

One night earlier, the Cattlewash fillies A Clean Deal, Th Check Me Out and Jay filled the trifecta in the $140,000 fillies’ division.

A Clean Deal won by a length in 1:50.8, the fastest time put up by a two-year-old filly in Canada this year.

A Clean Deal, who is undefeated in two starts, is from a Western Ideal mare.

Cattlewash has rocketed to the top of the North American two-year-old sires’ premiership this season and is a clear leader on the three-year-old list on average earnings per foal.

He has already sired 22 sub 2:00 two-year-olds so far in 2025.
