U S Captain… reporting for duty sire!!

South Island stud farms, Wai Eyre Farm and Macca Lodge are excited to have jointly secured the services of US Captain, a superbly bred harness racing son of Captaintreacherous, for this breeding season.

US Captain

“We decided we wanted a stallion that was really well bred but would also be affordable for breeders.  We also wanted to own him outright, so he is 100% NZ owned.  To be able to offer a stallion with such modern and world class blood-lines at a very competitive and affordable price is exciting for all of us and is brilliant for the industry,” said Wai Eyre Farm owner Darryl Brown.

U S Captain paced 16 sub-1:50 miles, recorded 52 top three finishes with 22 wins, took a mark of 1:49, and had one place time of 1:48.1.

US Captain was purchased as a yearling for $180,000 by Tony Alagna who trained him through his two, three and four year old seasons and had this to say “US Captain was a terrific individual with an effortless gait who possessed the type of high-end speed it takes to become a successful sire in any jurisdiction – he is  a horse with one of the greatest pedigrees in harness racing. He’s a can’t miss!”

With World Champions on both side of his pedigree, US Captain has one of the best pedigrees you will find – being by World Champion Sire Captaintreacherous and out of a World Champion race mare American Jewel (American Ideal).

Dam American Jewel, bred by industry powerhouse Brittany Farms, became a world champion at both 2 and 3, she was a multiple Group winner, including 4 Group 1 races, and amassed $1,840,565 in stake earnings while setting or equalling no less than four world records.

She was the best mare sired by American Ideal who has left progeny of over $250 Million in earnings. American Jewel’s pedigree extends back to Hall of Fame pacing filly Three Diamonds who is one of the greatest producers of all time.

Three Diamonds is the dam of world champion and successful sire Life Sign, multiple stakes winner Threefold, and is the granddam of champion racehorse and leading sire American Ideal. This family is full of athleticism and precocious early running blood

US Captain has spent two seasons in the breeding barn in North America, with excellent fertility. His eldest progeny are foals with reports that they are really, nice types and breeders are delighted with them.

“He’s a stallion that can go to Bettor’s Delight mares. That’s the key because there are so many of them in New Zealand. “

US Captain is currently in quarantine and will arrive at the 600 acre Wai Eyre Farm in late July.

“As a farm we’ve lowered all our working, foal and vet fees to give breeders a good chance of breeding. That’s to help the breeders and the farm out. If we reduce our fees and increase our numbers, it helps keep the wheels turning.”

US Captain is totally New Zealand owned, meaning every dollar stays in New Zealand. He’s Harness 5000 and Next Gen eligible.

“We thought there was a market for US Captain to offer breeders an affordable stallion that will cross well over Bettor’s Delight mares.

U S Captain will stand for $3,000.00 + gst.

“If your mare is bred at either Wai Eyre Farm or Macca Lodge, then his service fee will include the working fee”
