New children’s book brings harness racing to young readers

Charlottetown, PEI –May 2025 – A heartwarming new children’s book is set to inspire young readers with a tale of determination, courage, and the power of believing in oneself. Seahorse: A Big Heart Wins, is the debut book by harness racing owner, breeder, and enthusiast Nicole MacPherson, published by Retromedia and Stonebridge Publishing.

Inspired by a real Standardbred horse born with a distinctive seahorse-shaped marking, Seahorse: A Big Heart Wins follows the journey of a spirited racehorse who, despite her small stature, captures the hearts of those around her.

From her earliest days to her triumphant graduation from Racehorse Academy, Seahorse’s story is filled with excitement, challenges, and the unwavering support of her trainers, owners, and friends.

The book offers young readers an engaging introduction to the world of harness racing, while encouraging them to dream big and persevere.

“As a long-time harness racing owner and breeder, I wanted to share the excitement and heart of the sport with a new generation,” said author Nicole MacPherson.

The book is co-published by Retromedia, founded by Larry Resnitzky, a well-known harness racing enthusiast. Retromedia has six harness racing books to its credit.
