Anvil Hands booms home late to win

Plainville, MA — Anvil Hands (Always B Miki) started slow but forged an impressive harness racing victory late in the $16,000 featured pace at Plainridge Park on Monday (May 12) afternoon.

Anvil Hands (Jim Hardy) got away sixth as Gandolf The Black (Drew Monti) took the lead passing the quarter, and then took the field to the half in :56.2. It was there an outer flow formed led by Vel Letsroll South (Drew Campbell), with Anvil Hands third-over in the breeze. Positions remained unchanged until the final turn where Anvil Hands tipped out and found himself four-wide coming into the stretch. As they headed for home, Anvil Hands continued to gain ground and nipped Vel Letsroll South by a nose in 1:52.4.

The second consecutive win was also a seasonal best time for Anvil Hands ($6.80) who is owned by David Thibault, Christine Thibault, Jim Hardy and Jolene Andrews, who also trains the winner.

Earlier in the $14,000 Starter Allowance, Odds On Lauderdale (Shawn Gray) pulled first-over from third approaching the half and took the lead by five-eighths. From there, he matched strides with Hypnoticdream (Drew Campbell) all the way into deep stretch where Odds On Lauderdale grabbed victory by less than a length in a season’s best, 1:52.2.

Odds On Lauderdale ($10.80) is owned and trained by Mike Eaton.

Nick Graffam and Shawn Gray led all drivers on Monday with two wins each while 11 different trainers all won one race apiece during the proceedings.

Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (May 13) at 4 p.m. and there will be a $3,718 carryover in the sixth race Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta.
