Plainville, MA — The drivers race at Plainridge Park has been very close so far in the early stages of the meet, and two of the top contenders made statements by winning three races on Thursday (April 24) afternoon.

Brett Beckwith, who had eight wins going in and was tied for the lead with Kevin Switzer Jr., ran his total up to 11 after his trio of wins led by Sonmar Pond (Chapter Seven) in the $13,000 conditioned trot.

The heavily favored Sonmar Pond sat second behind Enhance Yourcalm N (Kevin Switzer Jr.) through quarters of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:26.3 before moving to the outside heading into the last turn and then taking the lead in the stretch, where he pulled away to a 2-½ length win in 1:56.1.
Sonmar Pond ($2.60) is owned by Lindy Farms of Connecticut and trained by Domenico Cecere.
Beckwith’s hat trick was completed with Twin B Kini (1:55.1, $5.40) and Major Leaguer (1:53.3, $2.60).
Graffam, who started the day in fifth place, moved into third now with eight wins, on the strength of victories behind Bella’s Love (1:57.1, $3.00), The World Owes Me (1:56.2, $6.20) and Lauren’s Hoopla (1:57.1, $4.60).
Switzer started out tied with Beckwith for the lead and slipped one position after nabbing two wins to give him a total of 10 while Matty Athearn (6) and Mitchell Cushing (6) rounded out the top five after each scored a single victory during the afternoon.
Trainers Julia Eaton and Zack Gray each won two races on Thursday. Eaton is now tied with Jeff Culipher as the leading trainers of the current Plainridge meet.
Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Thursday (April 24) at 4 p.m.
