MHRI announces aged trotting award winners

Columbus, MN – Minnesota Harness Racing Inc. has named the 2024 aged trotting award winners.

The announcements are being made ahead of the MHRI annual meeting and Awards Banquet which will be held on Saturday (February 22) at Running Aces Casino, Hotel and Racetrack.

𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 is the aged mares trotting Champion. She is a daughter of Southwind Flash and was bred by Jeanne Marquis and is owned by Jeanne Marquis and Jay De Long and trained by Justin Anfinson.

Wilamar Spark was a winner on Night of Champions in 1:57.3 and took her current career mark of 1:56.2 on August 25 with regular driver Rick Magee in the sulky.

She had 3 wins from thirteen starts and earned $53,526 at Running Aces and posted an overall summary of 20-9-3-3 and $60,826 for her 5-year-old season.

𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐞’𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 is the aged mares trotting Runner-Up. She is a daughter of Claudius Augustus and was bred by A Piece of The Action, LLC and is owned by John Land and trained by Jenni King.

Susie’s Sister was second on Night of Champions and took her 7-year-old mark of 1:56.3 on June 18 with driver James Lackey aboard.

She had 4 wins from fifteen starts at Running Aces with earnings of $40,995. She now shows 37 career wins and lifetime money of $354,656.

𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 is the 2024 aged male trotting Champion. He is a son of Money Talks and was bred by Katie Horvat and is owned by Joshua Horvat and also trained by Katie Horvat.

Bringoverthemoney was also the 2023 Champion in this division and was a winner on 2024 Night of Champions (in 1:56.3) for a record fifth-straight year. He took his 9-year-old season’s mark of 1:54.4 on July 7 with regular pilot Dean Magee at the controls.

He won 4 races from eighteen starts at Running Aces, earning $73,046. His overall summary for 2024 was 22-8-2-2 with total earnings of $76,546.

He now shows 46 career wins and is the richest Minnesota-sired trotter ever with his lifetime bankroll currently sitting at $442,571.

𝐀𝐥-𝐌𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 is the aged male trotting Runner-Up. He is also a son of Money Talks and he was bred by Al-Mar Farms. He is also owned by Joshua Horvat and is trained by Katie Horvat. This is the second year in a row that Team Horvat has captured both Aged Trotting Awards with these two half-brothers.

Al-Mar Spicey Talk was second by a head to his stablemate (Bringoverthemoney) on Night of Champions and he took his seven-year-old mark (and new career mark) of 1:55.1 on July 21 with regular driver Mooney Svendsen in the bike.

He had a summary of 16-2-4-2 and earnings of $45,091 at Running Aces in 2024.

As per tradition, the overall 2024 Minnesota Harness Racing Horse of the Year will be voted on by those in attendance at the MHRI Banquet.
