Bill to ban horse slaughter reintroduced

The John Rainey Memorial Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act (S. 1214) has been introduced in the Senate by Sens. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Barbara Mikulski (D-MD).

The SAFE Act, identical to a bill recently introduced in the House, would prohibit the slaughter of horses in the United States for human consumption, as well as the export of live horses for the same purpose.
