Upset in feature – Hughes milestone

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The harness racing winner's circle at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park had an unexpected visitor in the Saturday afternoon preferred pace.

First Art Down came first up and kept on driving in the $2,400 event with Ken Murphy in the bike for trainer Clifford Murphy and owner Bruce Wood of Marshfield. All Turain (Corey MacPherson) cut out the early fractions of 29, 59.3 and 1:29.4 before being collared by First Art Down in the stretch in a 1:59.4 mile over a track rated three seconds off. All Turain was second with Cambest Kisser (Jason Hughes) getting the show prize.

It was a milestone day for Hughes as he scored two wins on the day, both out of his own stable to take sole control of the Charlottetown driver's standings as he now has 109 wins in 2015, to Marc Campbell's 108. Bunny Mach was a winner in 2:06.1 over the off track for trainer-driver Hughes and owners Steven and Don MacRae of Vernon Bridge to give Hughes training win 100 of the season. Hughes sits in fifth place in Canada for training wins.

Later in the card, Sam captured the $2,350 Open Mares Handicap in 2:02 to give trainer Hughes his 500th career training victory. Hughes was in the bike for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, N.S. Sendmeasign (Kenny Arsenault) was second in the event with Whitesand Artist (Gary Chappell) finishing third.

Corey MacPherson had another productive Saturday, winning four dashes on the card winning with Hurricane Hill, Dusty Lane Diego, PL Faststrike and Idealic Life.

Murphy and Chappell both had a pair of driving wins on the program.
